Royal-tea

Image
A couple of weeks ago the Saturday night party I hosted for my family was a Royal High Tea. I even did a little baking for the occasion. I baked chocolate caramel cookie dough bars from a recipe I discovered on TikTok. The finished product looked pretty standard and tasted delicious. I also baked some scones. The finished product looked hideous, but still tasted delicious. I also included store bought melting moments with the sweet selections. The savoury selections were frozen mini quiches and smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches. The fancy food and table setting called for fancy attire. Adelyn was shown a photo of her Gigig's outfit and asked if she liked it. Her reply? "No." I pulled out my formal dress from 2006 for the occasion.  I accessorised it little differently 15 years later. I asked Adelyn if she thought I looked like a princess to which she said, "Yeah!" There was of course tea available, which we drank out of Mum's country roses tea set. I...

Spring Fashion

Image
A couple of weeks ago the Saturday night lockdown party theme was "Spring". Coincidentally it occurred at the end of New York Fashion Week, and just before the Met Gala. I of course pretended we were all part of the fashionable elite. My look was inspired by a blooming flower. Mum really shone in her vibrant sunny ensemble. Eric delighted his fans with a more watered down look. Following the photo shoot we kicked things off attempting to use a flower craft kit I was given in the mid-90s. The flower press didn't quite work, so we became the flower presses. Mum was thrilled that her efforts were successful. We all modelled our floral accessories. As always, I'd selected a Spotify playlist for our activities.  Our final activity for the evening was toilet paper roll butterflies. We used the roll from baking paper instead. We also didn't follow the instructions exactly. We were supposed to paint the rolls, but we couldn't risk getting paint on our outfits, so we c...

Literary and Musical Lockdown Adventures

They say in lockdown you should stick to a routine, so I'm sticking to my routine of being behind in my blogging. We're almost at the end of week 12 of lockdown, but I'm taking us back to week 9. The theme was books. You could be anything relating to a book. You could even be a library, if you wanted. I chose to be Professor Albus Dumbledore from the Harry Potter  series. Or as Mum kept calling him "Gublegorf". I was pretty excited to use the wand that had chosen me at Ollivander's in Universal Studios, Florida. Mum was the Granny from Little Red Riding Hood . Eric was a book worm, which came complete with his own drawing of a book worm. That evening's activities were set to the Harry Potter  soundtrack. Our first task for the evening was the "Book Alphabet Challenge". Contestants had to come up with a book based word for every letter of the alphabet. When it became to too tricky we scoured our bookshelves, which resulted in some answers like Ove...
