Christmas in New York (Part 1)

December 2023 was not my first festive season in New York. It was not my first rodeo, as some might say. But on some occasions it certainly felt like it was.  (We were on our way to hit up my old pal, Broadway. We’ll get to that in a hot minute.) Catching the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) felt pretty standard, even when running late. But then we travelled to Grand Central Madison (instead of Penn Station), which only opened in January 2023. It felt super fancy and convenient. And there was even a quote about dancing.  The only downside was the way up/down. If you say it’s not the longest, steepest escalator ever you’re lying. Ok, you’re probably not, but it certainly felt like it. Then we found a lift that took us to the perfect spot on the street to walk to the Shubert Theatre. That Time I Surprised Addy

At the beginning of last year I decided it would be fun to spend Christmas in New York with my niece. I also thought it would be a good idea to surprise her. A week or so (I actually can’t remember how long before) my mum and I told Addy over a video call that we’d be spending Christmas with her, her mum (my sister, Alicia) and her dad (Carlos). The journey for Mum and I started in Sydney… with a photo for the blog, of course.  After an insane amount of hours flying, an encounter with an angry, egotistical TSA agent (or was that on the way home?) we made it to the newly renovated Terminal B in LaGuardia Airport.  Back tracking a little, Mum and I were lined up to walk past sniffer dogs. Except you couldn’t see what was actually happening because there were partitions.
