Where Else, But Queensland?
Imagine Australian state borders are open. Airlines are operating with a normal service. It's not illegal to sit on a bench outside, and I'm not in quarantine. When I was met with these exact circumstances on January 8, 2019 I decided to take my mum on a holiday to Queensland.

Just quietly, back then Sydney Domestic Airport was not a pleasant space, but there was a bookstore. My mum treated me to a couple of new books. Sharp Objects is a gripping read. The Tattooist of Auschwitz is on my list of books to read during isolation.

Mum's cousin, Jane met us at Gold Coast Airport and drove us to her holiday home in Coolangatta. We all had a lovely chat over a puzzle. I'm yet to break out any puzzles during this quarantine.

The next day we admired the sights at Kirra Point Lookout.

Coolangatta is a beautiful place.

We drove back over the border into New South Wales to picturesque Tumbulgum.

House of Gabriel gave us food with a view.

And a little visitor popped by.

I'd been on holiday so long, I decided to do a little barre. Or as Aussie Prime Minister, ScoMo would say, "bar-ay.”

We made our way back to the border between New South Wales and Queensland, which of course required a photo shoot.

Mum couldn’t escape the photo shoot for the blog.

Point Danger Lookout was our next stop.

Social distancing before it was a thing, although I definitely shouldn't be sitting down.

If you look closely you might spot Mum and Jane.

I couldn't visit a coastal Queensland town without a trip to the beach. I also couldn't go without applying seven litres of sunscreen. This moon-tan doesn't just maintain itself.

Later that afternoon we had a little fresh watermelon juice, prepared by Jane.

Pancake Diner was our dinner destination.

I thought it was pretty wild having a full English breakfast for dinner in an American style diner, in Australia. But now, the mere thought of sitting down at an eatery is a truly wild concept.

I snagged these delightful chips from the local supermarket.

We went back to Jane's place for ice-cream, Bananagrams, and Scattegories.

That was just the beginning of 9 day trip to Queensland. Stop by again soon for more Queensland vacation content.
