Lockdown 2021 (Part 1)
If you're looking for ideas to keep you occupied at home you've come to the right place.
THEMED EVENTS
I decided that every Saturday night we would hold a themed event. The first was a board game night. We didn't even finish one game of Monopoly, but when we decided to end the game I had the most money and that's all that matters.
Did we play in normal outfits? Of course not. That night's theme was simply "Fancy Dress".
I decided to be a blue fairy.
Mum went as the Queen of Hearts.
Eric was Captain Hook because Mum and I found a pirate hat and hook while rummaging through our costume supplies.
There was a little tension between Mum and Eric when she realised she owed him rent.
She was much happier when she won second prize in a beauty contest, which was hardly a surprise given her stunning attire.
The following Saturday I held a Red "Carpet" Movie Night. Australian classic Strictly Ballroom was on the screen.
And Mum, Eric and I were standing on red carpet... which was actually just my red coat.
READING
Aside from themed events I've also been doing quite a bit of reading. I recommend all of these novels.
I devoured their intriguing characters, plot twists, and questioning of the status quo.
MARVEL MOVIES
If you're completely behind the times like me, then lockdown is the perfect time to acquaint yourself with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I have previously seen some of the Marvel movies, but I've started from the beginning so I can watch them all in release order. I'm currently in phase one and am excited to continue the journey.
TIKTOK
This latest lockdown has reunited me with my old pal, TikTok.
Considering that practising (and sometimes choreographing) TikTok dances is my only form of exercise I'm pretty grateful for the app.
WORDS WITH FRIENDS
I've also been reunited with an even older friend - Words With Friends.
Is my score normally this good? No. But will I allow you to think it is? Absolutely.
VIDEO CHATS
In last year's lockdown some Blue Mountains Musical Society dancers and I participated in a weekly Zoom, which has been brought back this year.
Sometimes future BMMS dancers join the chats.
I'm also thoroughly enjoying my video calls with Adelyn (and Alicia and Carlos). She enjoys showing us things, like her crayons,
and her sunglasses.
Sometimes I’m not quite sure what she’s showing me, so I ask. Her response is usually, “This one.”
Stay tuned for Adelyn's Baby Shark beach birthday bash.
