Birthday Week - Part 2
Day 2 of Birthday week took Mum and I to The Grounds of Alexandria. After admiring images on their social media for years I finally visited the establishment, and convinced Mum to make the trip in too.
Our visit coincided with a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the film, Cinderella.
Following the previous day's Pixar Putt outing, it wasn't difficult to convince myself I was at Disney World.
My golden Mickey Ears made another appearance. At one point a little girl walked passed and exclaimed, "I see Mickey Mouse!"
The truth I wasn't trying to be Mickey Mouse, but I am glad it brought her joy. I was actually aiming for a Cinderella Disneybound, but I wasn't about to correct the little girl.
The laneway was exquisitely adorned with lavish decorations inspired by Cinderella.
Paolo Sebastian gowns left me wondering if perhaps I should've worn a ball gown.
I'm also thinking the next vehicle I purchase might be a carriage.
After traipsing through the laneway it was time for our reservation at the Potting Shed.
There are a few eateries at The Grounds. I chose the Potting Shed because it's one of two places where the limited edition Cinderella menu items are available.
One of those items was the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo mocktail.
Did I regret the selection? No. Would I select it again? Also, no. The fairy floss was the best part.
Mum and I shared a pasta dish. I don't remember what it was called, but I do remember I would definitely get it again.
The service was exceptional. Food arrived promptly, and the friendly staff followed COVID safe procedures.
A few times that day my birthday badge prompted people to wish me a happy birthday. Each interaction felt like a magical moment from Disney World. While sitting at the table a woman told me it was her birthday too, so I was able to wish her a happy birthday.
Another limited edition Cinderella menu item was the pumpkin carriage cake.
I of course captured several photos of the moist pumpkin cake with a cream cheese icing filling, and covered in buttercream icing. And you better believe I pretended the cake was made specifically for my 32nd birthday.
I found this little room next to the bathroom, so I convinced Mum to do a photo shoot for the blog.
The poses are her own.
After dinner we continued exploring the laneway, which anyone can enter for free during the day, but in the evening you either need a dining reservation at the Potting Shed or can pay $5, which will be donated to charity.
Which Cinderella mood are you?
Mum's favourite colour is yellow, so I convinced her to get a photo with the yellow cart.
Posing with the pig required no convincing.
At the end of the day we jumped in Mum's car, which looks a little like the transitional stage between a pumpkin and a carriage. For some reason these arches decorated only our car space and the one next to it. It was definitely for my birthday.
After a number of extensions, tomorrow is the final day of the Cinderella theme. Hop in your carriage (or a train carriage) before time runs out.
Stay tuned for even more birthday shenanigans.
