Mamma Mia!

This blog post is dedicated to all the wonderful types of people you might find in community theatre.

You can find incredibly talented people.

Some of those people might also love performing on stage in 11 sold out shows of Mamma Mia!

In musicals you'll often find people who love dancing...

But they're not always the kind of people who will point out random places to visit on a map each show.

I even found someone who didn't question me dancing on the dock in the finale every show like it was a platform in a nightclub. Thanks for being my hype girl, TC.

My fellow tourists and Queens of Drama, I will always cherish our time spent knee clapping in time to the tambourine in Honey Honey while we waited to go onstage. Reminiscing about those double claps brings true joy.

To all of my dancing queens, Monica, Simone, Piper, Karis, Bella, Tina-Chanelle, Ainsley, Emily and Bec, it was an absolute pleasure sharing the rehearsal space and stage with you.

Our talent is undeniable.

Sometimes in community theatre you'll even find someone who will do a different dance move with you offstage after every show.

Stay beautisome, Bernie.

You'll also find some talented people behind the scenes, like the backstage crew who keep the show running smoothly, compete in colouring in competitions  and sometimes provide baked goods.

One of Hayley’s entries definitely deserved first prize.

There's also the production team who provide the directorial, musical and choreographic goods. John, Alina and Amy, thank you for sharing your artistic gifts, and managing to still be so humble.

Amy, from an awkward sister to an amazing choreographer, I'm so glad I got to be part of your Mamma Mia! journey.

You're a true star maker - not only did you make the entire cast look fabulous on stage,

but you also made this very professional-looking star.

In the dressing room you can find the same people you perform with onstage, but with minor variations in their appearance and personalities.

Here's Dirt Hall in his matching wow.

He was also accompanied by favourite cast member, Greg.

For anyone invested in the Willy Wonka drama, don't be alarmed, but Elena does look very suspicious in this photo. Even though I do believe that Bec is Willy Wonka.

Here's Kelly who just loves her pineapple juice.

Sometimes you can find people who will do a little DIY renovation with strategically placed clothing racks to create a VIP dressing room space, which becomes known as Dressing Room 3.

Corinne really enjoyed her time with Sam, Sarah and Elena.

I also happened to have some dynamite Dynamo neighbours. I'd look through the window to Dressing Room 1 to see the bubbly Michelle, the delightful Jess, and hear Linda talking about how she owns a coat hanger just like mine.

I also enjoyed conversations with Angela while she did her makeup.

In the dressing room were also people like Lewis who lead warm ups where everybody looked a little deranged.

One kind of people you rarely find in community theatre is normal people.

If you’re looking for normal you’ve come to the wrong place.

Sometimes you can find people who share your passions outside of theatre, like TikTok and dance movies.

After completing the Cuff It challenge and watching Step Up 2: The Streets in complete silence we are ready to take our skillz to the streets.

Hopefully the ground will shake a little less than at the Springwood Spring Fair.

In community theatre you can find people who enjoy hanging out. The pub is a great place for that.

Eating lunch on the grass with people I care about... even if I don't care about the cost of their salad is great too.

Hanging out while performing and drinking shots of air is also great.

I hope you're hungry... for nothing. The handful Mitchell couldn't actually say this out loud because I'm pretty sure he's a mime.

You might also find people in community theatre who indulge your love of producing parodies. Ainsley, Bec, Bella, Bernie, Emily, Emily, Hayley, Monica, Tara and TC thank you for your commitment to taking the piss out of ourselves.

And thank you to Nigel the pelican and Mini Mini Donna for being such good sports too.

The best part about community theatre is the supportive people that you find. There are the fans who watch the shows.

And there are people who are part of the shows that are incredibly supportive, which I found really helpful when I covered the role of Father Alexandrios.

Thank you to the OG Father, Alex, who answered all my questions.

Apparently I went through some sort of process to become the apprentice priest, as captured by Monica in these candids.

I know that I was blessing everyone that night, but honestly I was the one that was blessed to be surrounded by so much encouragement and kindness.

To the entire cast, production team, crew and committee thank you for being the most amazing, beautiful, crazy people.

Thank you for being my kind of people.

If Aunt Sophia left me a big stash of cash I'd take us all on a Greek Island holiday. I'd probably still only take my authentic '90s Flipper bumbag as my luggage.

Love, lobbies and blessings always, you amazing super (trooper) stars. xo
